Project Monolith

Worklog: Here
We've already had one crazy project involving a compressor this month but we guarantee you'll be more than a bit surprised by what you see here. Not only does rainwulf's Project Monolith feature design inspired by no less than Space Oddysey 2001, books by Neal Asher, and steampunk all thrown into the mix, but it has one of the craziest water-cooling systems we've ever seen.
This is going to be one seriously unique and beefy system when it's complete and we highly recommend that you head over to rainwulf's project log to check it out in more detail. Quite literally everything is going to be water-cooled in fact rainwulf says "
If it produces heat, it will have a waterblock on it." We'll have to wait and see if he can live up to that claim but we can see a lot of copper being involved here at any rate.
An old wall mountable air conditioning unit soon went under the knife to donate its large heat exchanger. rainwulf then cut the ends off the copper tubes ready to start work on creating his water-cooled beast. Apparently the unit used an old type of gas so was up for grabs when it was mothballed. Not a bad find!
Two custom manifolds allow for an even flow of coolant through the massive radiator. Initially he used standard PVC tubing but firstly decided it smelt and also had issues with leaks. We'd certainly agree the copper manifolds look a lot nicer too! He's also made what appears to be a custom reservoir with a foam insert to act as a filter.
To house the giant radiator, a scratch built case was required and this would be rainwulf's first attempt at building one. It seems to have gone fairly well so far with a frame already constructed. Above on the right we can see the radiator mounted with more than just one fan. The cooling from this thing should be epic, so long as it has a powerful enough pump of course!
Now things are getting interesting. We can see what appear to be custom copper blocks installed to quite a few hot spots on the motherboard. Now cast your eyes to the right. O....M....G. Nuff said really! Needless to say
we've subscribed to this one!
